Testing, Tutoring, and SOL Information

In support of our school division's efforts to focus on high achievement and continuous improvement, Princess Anne Middle School has a number of programs in place to improve student performance on the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs) to maintain our status as Fully Accredited.

Independent Reading for Students:

Homework Hotline:

For students reading several levels below grade level, a Reading Specialist provides small group intensive assistance with reading comprehension skills. Students are identified for this group based on state and national test scores and exit the program only after attaining a specific benchmark score on a formal assessment offered at the close of each semester. This program is offered during the elective/exploratory period.

Students who encounter difficulty on a homework assignment in the core areas may phone Homework Hotline where certified teachers will "talk" students through difficulties over the phone. Homework Hotline is also available for parents to call.

PAMS PM Homework Center/Tutoring:

A.M. Homework Center and
Math Readiness Center:

The PAMS PM Homework Center provides students with an opportunity to complete homework or to use a computer afterschool.  This is available Monday through Thursday, 3:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.  PAMS Tutoring is for students to receive help in a particular subject.  Tutoring is available Monday through Thursday, 3:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with focus on one subject each day.

Each school day from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. in the cafeteria, students may arrive to school early to study, read, or complete homework. Students who have encountered difficulty with a mathematics concept or with homework from the night before may attend the Math Readiness Center to receive direct assistance from mathematics teachers.

Remediation Intervention:

SOL Previously Released Test and Review sites:

Mandatory remediation classes provide assistance to students during the school day, in place of an elective bell, ensuring them the opportunity to achieve basic academic skills and advance to the next grade level.  Students who fail the reading or mathematics Standards of Learning (SOL) tests will be placed in SOL Lab for a minimum of one semester, where they will receive remediation and enrichment as an extension of classroom activities. Students with a grade of “69” or lower at the end of the previous nine weeks in any core subject will be required to participate in Academic Support for a minimum of one quarter, where they will receive assistance with completing assignments and developing effective study skills in order to raise their grades.
